  1. 21. Enhancing T cell mediated immunity in DNA vaccination

    Författare :Jan Alvar Lindencrona; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DNA vaccination; CTL; T cell; IFN-gamma; anti-tumor immunity; HER-2 neu; Influenza; LCMV; Virus-Like Particles; murine models; adjuvants; immunotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : For centuries infectious diseases have been one of the main causes of death in the world. With the invention of vaccine technology 200 years ago, we have been able to impede and even eradicate several dangerous pathogens. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Development of novel DNA vaccine and immunotherapeutic approaches

    Författare :Maroof Hasan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Many potential DNA vaccination and immunotherapeutic strategies has been explored in both animal models and human settings in recent years. However, the failure of efficient and safe method development suggests that it is time to rethink, since more innovative approaches are needed for better control of infection and immunotherapy. 3. 23. Improving the immunogenicity of HIV-1 DNA vaccines

    Författare :David Hallengärd; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nearly 30 years have passed since the start of the global HIV epidemic and we are still unable to control the spread of the virus. HIV predominately infects cells crucial for the function of the immune system, integrates into the host genome and demonstrates a huge genetic variability, and the use of therapeutic antiretroviral drugs can restrain but not clear the infection. 4. 24. Targeting double-stranded DNA with locked nucleic acid-based (LNA) oligonucleotides (ON) and DNA-binding peptide conjugates

    Författare :Y Vladimir Pabón-Martínez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have studied two different types of molecules that bind to the major groove of the DNA: (i) oligonucleotides (ONs) containing locked nucleic acid (LNA) and in combination with intercalating agents (Twisted Intercalating Nucleic Acid, TINA, and Benzoquinoquinoxaline, BQQ) and (ii) peptides mimicking the leucine zipper transcription factor (GCN4 bZIP TF). Both ONs and peptides bind to the DNA double helix aiming to serve as transcription regulators of disease related genes. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Control of Chromosome and Plasmid Replication in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Jan Olsson; Kurt Nordström; Santanu Dasgupta; Måns Ehrenberg; Anders Lobner-Olesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Life is cellular. Cells grow and divide to give two new cells; this process is called the cell cycle. The chromosome in a bacterium is replicated into two identical copies before the cell divides. DNA replication is a fundamental process common to all forms of life. LÄS MER
