   Sammanfattning : In this study we evaluated pathogenetic factors and possible mediators of renal and systemic disorders where immunologic mechanisms might be of importance.An abberant immunoglobulin and IgG-subclass distribution was detected in 103 patients with primary and secondary glomerulonephritis as well as in 38 patients with the systemic disease primary Sjögren 's syndrome or purpura hypergammaglobulinemica (elevated IgG1 and low IgG2 ). 7. 5. Islet xenograft rejection : studies in the pig-to-rodents and pig-to-primate models

   Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis was: 1) to compare islet allo- and xenograft rejection in rats, using immunosuppression with CsA in a mixed allogeneic-xenogeneic islet transplantation model, 2) to evaluate the efficacy of various immunosuppressive drugs, with special reference to Leflunomide, in preventing islet xenograft rejection in the pig-to-rat model, 3) to perform an immunohistochemical study of porcine islet xenograft rejection in primates including primates treated with CsA+DSG, and 4) to study the metabolism and excretion of porcine C-peptide in mice, with special reference to the use of donor-specific C-peptide for monitoring islet xenograft function.
