11. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Material Modification and Fuel Retention
Sammanfattning : Fuel inventory and generation of carbon and metal dust in a tokamak are perceived to be serious safety and economy issues for the steady-state operation of a fusion reactor, e.g. ITER. LÄS MER
12. Low-energy ions around comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Sammanfattning : Low-energy ions play important roles in the formation of the plasma environment around a comet. Reliable ways of measuring these ions are therefore of high importance to fully understand the processes and dynamics of this environment. Unfortunately, low-energy ions are infamously difficult to detect. LÄS MER
13. Extreme Electron Beams and Brilliant X-rays : Generation, Manipulation and Characterization of Relativistic Electron Beams for and from Plasma-Based Accelerators
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work done by the author on the development of plasma-based electron accelerators driven by ultra-intense laser pulses and dense electron bunches. Plasma based accelerators have several benefits, such as accelerating fields around 1000 times stronger than in “conventional” radio-frequency accelerators, which can allow for shrinking the overall footprint of the accelerator. 14. Modelling and analyzing strong-field effects in quantum plasma
Sammanfattning : Under the extreme conditions that can be found around dense stars and in the accretion discs of black holes, several strong-field quantum phenomena dominate the dynamics of the plasma. This includes the creation of matter and anti-matter from the vacuum (Schwinger mechanism), radiation reaction and Landau quantization. LÄS MER
15. Pushing methods for plasma simulations into the QED regime
Sammanfattning : The interaction between a super-intense laser pulse, with intensity up to 10²² W/cm², and a plasma opens new regimes of physics, with new questions and more demand on existing numerical tools. Relativistic and quantum effects which are negligible for lower laser intensities become important and must be properly modelled to generate reliable predictions. LÄS MER
