1. Theoretical Atomic Spectroscopy of Earthbound and Stellar Plasma
Sammanfattning : Motivated by spectroscopic analysis of astrophysical and laboratory plasma, this thesis concerns the fundamental structure and spectral properties of atoms and their ions. The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) method is used to predict the emission or absorption of radiation, by atomic systems in general, and of heavy and highly charged ions in particular. 2. Plasma as a Therapeutic Principle in Clinical Practice : With Special Reference to Sweden
Sammanfattning : The newly established Swedish Apheresis Registry makes it possible to do national inter-center comparisons. This study was undertaken to describe and analyze the use of therapeutic apheresis and the adverse effects in such therapy. LÄS MER
3. Antibody based plasma protein profiling
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about protein profiling in serum and plasma using antibody suspension bead arrays for the analysis of biobanked samples and in the context of prostate cancer biomarker discovery. The influence of sample preparation methods on antibody based protein profiles were investigated (Papers I-III) and a prostate cancer candidate biomarker identified and verified (Papers III-V). 4. Electron - Ion Recombination Studies of Astrophysically Relevant Ions : Storage Ring and Electron Beam Ion Trap Based Measurements
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental work that was performed at two state-of-the art devices for electron-ion collision physics, at a heavy-ion storage ring and at an Electron Beam Ion Trap. As a result, absolute recombination rate coefficients for H-like Si, He-like Si, Be-like Si, and Na-like Si, as well as Be-like Ne, Na-like S and Na-like Ar are reported over a wide energy range from μeV to keV. 5. Preoperative deposit of autologous blood. Effects on inflammatory mediators
Sammanfattning : Blood contains complex cascade systems and substances that can be activated during the processing of blood components and storage. Allogeneic blood, i.e. blood from someone else, is normally separated into components before storage and transfusion, while autologous blood (the patient s own blood) often is used as whole blood.
