6. Neutron Spectroscopy : Instrumentation and Methods for Fusion Plasmas
Sammanfattning : When the heavy hydrogen isotopes deuterium (D) and tritium (T) undergo nuclear fusion large amounts of energy are released. At the Joint European Torus (JET) research is performed on how to harvest this energy. Two of the most important fusion reactions, d+d→3He+n (En = 2.5 MeV) and d+t→4He+n (En = 14 MeV), produce neutrons. LÄS MER
7. Making TOFu : Fusion Plasma Neutron Emission Spectrometry with a Fully Digital Data Acquisition System
Sammanfattning : TOFu (Time-Of-Flight upgrade) is a fully digital data acquisition system based on 1 GSPS, 12 bit digitisers for the TOFOR (Time-Of-Flight spectrometer Optimised for Rate) fusion neutron spectrometer at JET. The system has been assessed, developed and subsequently tested during experimental campaigns at JET. LÄS MER
8. Waves in space plasmas : Lower hybrid cavities and simple-pole distribution functions
Sammanfattning : Waves are a fundamental feature in many parts of physics, since they transport energy without transporting matter. This is the case also in space physics. Waves are responsible for energy transport both between different parts of space and between different particles in the space plasma. LÄS MER
9. Modelling and Measurements of MAST Neutron Emission
Sammanfattning : Measurements of neutron emission from a fusion plasma can provide a wealth of information on the underlying temporal, spatial and energy distributions of reacting ions and how they are affected by a wide range of magneto-hydro-dynamic (MHD) instabilities. This thesis focuses on the interpretation of the experimental measurements recorded by neutron flux monitors with and without spectroscopic capabilities installed on the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST). 10. Diagnosing Fuel Ions in Fusion Plasmas using Neutron Emission Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Neutron emission spectra, measured with the time of flight spectrometer TOFOR, at the joint European torus (JET) are presented in this thesis. TOFOR has been in use since 2005, routinely measuring the neutron emission from JET plasmas. LÄS MER
