6. Neuromuscular adaptations to muscle fatigue during submaximal isometric contractions in man
Sammanfattning : During a sustained contraction, the force producing capacity of a muscle gradually decreases. In order to maintain a constant force output, the neuromuscular system has to adapt to the contractile fatigue process. LÄS MER
7. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis : disease consequences and treatment effects on muscle strength, gait and pain
Sammanfattning : Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) may have a profound effect on the life of a child. Rheumatic diseases in children manifest mainly as synovitis, pain, stiffness, deformity, growth disturbances and fatigue. It is not uncommon to have reduced activity, lower aerobic endurance, and decreased muscle strength. LÄS MER
8. On the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. A prospective, randomised study of the results after surgical and non-surgical treatment
Sammanfattning : Only two prospective, randomised studies have been published on the outcome after treatment for Achilles tendon rupture. The controversy regarding the optimal treatment continues. In the present study, 112 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were randomised and all of them were followed up for two years. LÄS MER
9. Response of human skeletal muscle to chronic and acute exercise and ischemia : muscle dimensions, tissue water and blood flow as measured by magnetic resonance imaging and comparative methods
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the response of human skeletal muscle to exercise, training and ischemi and to evaluate if magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could be used to measure regional muscle cross-sectional area, muscle perfusion and detect muscle ischemia in patients with intermittent claudication. For this purpose studies were performed on 29 healthy young volunteers and 7 patients with intermittent claudication. LÄS MER
10. Bilateral kinetic, kinematic, neuromechanical, and muscle-tendon properties of habitual runners
Sammanfattning : Achilles tendon overuse-related injuries are a frequent problem to habitual runners. Such injuries occur more often unilaterally and its etiology is associated to overloading of the tendon tissue. Inter-limb differences during running are a possible cause for overload due to eventual differences in the mechanical loading provided to each limb. LÄS MER
