  1. 6. Remote sensing in optically complex waters : water quality assessment using MERIS data

    Författare :José M. Beltrán-Abaunza; Susanne Kratzer; Carsten Brockmann; Samantha Lavender; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean Colour; MERIS; Baltic Sea; Bio-optics; water quality; Chlorophyll; Turbidity; SPM; Himmerfjärden; Remote Sensing; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD study focusses on the use of MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) data for reliable and quantitative water-quality assessment of optically-complex waters (lake, brackish and coastal waters). The thesis is divided into two parts: A. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Understanding of molecular mechanisms and improving of adventitous root formation in apple

    Författare :Anders Smolka; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Adventitious root formation is essential for vegetative propagation, which is the main method for propagation of many horticultural crops, especially woody species. For propagation of apple rootstocks, adventitious root formation is often a limiting step. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra

    Författare :Jonas Dahlgren; Lauri Oksanen; Johan Olofsson; John Terborgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gray-sided voles; tundra vegetation; trophic cascades; plant-herbivore interactions; bilberry; plant communities; herbivory; plant resistance; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Genome editing of oilseed species by CRISPR/Cas9 for trait improvement

    Författare :Sjur Sandgrind; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The demand for vegetable oils for food and other applications is rapidly increasing due to a growing population and an urgent need to replace fossil oils. Furthermore, there are several challenges facing agricultural production, such as a shortage of arable land, climate change, and water pollution due to nutrient leaching from extensive use of fertilizers and tillage. 5. 10. FtsH metalloproteases and their pseudo-proteases in the chloroplast envelope of Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Laxmi S. Mishra; Christiane Funk; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Catherine de Vitry; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; AAA-ATPases; abscisic acid; chloroplast; drought; embryo-lethal; FtsH metalloprotease; intrinsic water-use efficiency WUEi ; leaf variegation; outdoor conditions; oxidative stress; plastid biogenesis; proteomics; protein import; root-associated bacterial communities seedlings; Biochemistry; biokemi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; biology; biologi;

    Sammanfattning : By cleaving peptide bonds, proteases either activate or degrade proteins and maintain protein quality control in response to various developmental stimuli and environmental factors. My work has focused on elucidating the role of the filamentation temperature sensitive protein H (FtsH) proteases. LÄS MER
