    Sammanfattning : This thesis is written within the field of architecture and urban planning. Based upon a critical examination of the Critical Planning Theory, communicative rationality and the concept of consensus, a model of communicative planning as management of conflicts is adopted as a theoretical framework together with the concepts of transparency and knowledge as qualitative aspects of an urban renewal planning process within a deliberative democratic society.     Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I analys suburb- and housing planning and interior decoration carried out primarily in Stockholm between the 1930s and the 1950s. Functionalism, the overall concept of the period, has perhaps been interpreted in terms of ideological concepts, interpreted as "democratic" and as a progressive dividing line between the past and the future.     Sammanfattning : This thesis is a human geography study of how local planners prepared, implemented and followed up a dialogue with the inhabitants in Alby, a multicultural community.
