16. Ultra-Reliable Short-Packet Communications: Fundamental Limits and Enabling Technologies
Sammanfattning : The paradigm shift from 4G to 5G communications, anticipated to enable ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), will enforce a radical change in the design of wireless communication systems. Unlike in 4G systems, where the main objective is to provide a large transmission rate, in URLLC, as implied by its name, the objective is to enable transmissions with low latency and, simultaneously, very high reliability. 17. Microalgae : future bioresource of the sea?
Sammanfattning : Unicellular microalgae are a renewable bioresource that can meet the challenge forfood and energy in a growing world population. Using sunlight, CO2, nutrients, and water, algal cells produce biomass in the form of sugars, proteins and oils, allof which carry commercial value as food, feed and bioenergy. LÄS MER
18. Towards improved drinking water safety : the use of in vitro bioassays to optimize treatment processes and assess chemical hazards
Sammanfattning : Drinking water safety has been primarily dependent on the monitoring of only a limited number of individual chemicals via chemical analysis, which is insufficient to characterize the myriad of hazardous chemicals present in water. Effect-based methods (EBMs) using in vitro bioassays are useful in that they evaluate biological effects from all the known and unknown chemicals in the water and draw on toxicological principles. 19. Virus inactivation - evaluation of treatment processes for food and biowaste
Sammanfattning : Animal by-products and manure contain valuable plant nutrients that could be recycled onto arable land, as fertiliser. If these materials contain pathogenic microorganisms, such as viruses, transmission to domestic animals, wildlife and the food chain could occur. LÄS MER
20. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons and trace elements
Sammanfattning : The rapid urbanization and industrialization has led to an increase of disposal petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC) and trace elements (TE) into the environment. These pollutants are considered as the most toxic contaminants in the world due to their persistence in the environment, and the long range of toxicological effects for living beings. LÄS MER
