21. Experimental Studies on the Regulation of Pigment Dynamics in Phytoplankton and Copepods by Dissolved Inorganic Nutrients
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the role of dissolved inorganic nutrients in generating changes in phytoplankton community and pigment composition and if such changes can affect the production of the antioxidant astaxanthin in the ecosystem via pelagic copepods. The background of my studies is the possible relationship between eutrophication and a reproductive disturbance in Baltic populations of Atlantic salmon (M74), which is associated with astaxanthin and thiamine deficiencies and oxidative stress. 23. A multivariate approach to the analysis of phytoplankton pigments
Sammanfattning : Photosynthetic pigments are routinely determined in investigations of marine and freshwater environments, chlorophyll is used as an estimator of phytoplankton biomass. Photosynthetic pigments are also widely used to characterise phytoplankton taxonomic composition. LÄS MER
24. Enrichment of biogenic and anthropogenic organic substances on sea spray aerosols
Sammanfattning : The world’s oceans are the source of one of the most abundant types of natural aerosols, namely sea spray aerosols (SSA). By scattering solar radiation, SSA play a significant role in controlling the Earth’s radiation budget, while they are also involved in the formation of clouds, acting as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). 25. Productivity and carbon transfer in pelagic food webs in response to carbon, nutrients and light
Sammanfattning : Some of the major problems we face today are human induced changes to the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and carbon (C) cycles. Predicted increases in rainfall and temperature due to climate change, may also increase dissolved organic matter (DOM) inflows to freshwater ecosystems in the boreal zone. LÄS MER
