  1. 11. Cardiac function and long-term volume load : Physiological investigations in endurance athletes and in patients operated on for aortic regurgitation

    Författare :Kristofer Hedman; Eva Nylander; Éva Tamás; Lars Brudin; Mats Börjesson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims. The heart is a remarkably adaptable organ, continuously changing its output to match metabolic demands and haemodynamic load. But also in long-term settings, such as in chronic or repeated volume load, there are changes in cardiac dimensions and mass termed cardiac hypertrophy. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Effects of physical exercise on coronary and peripheral vascular function. An integrative physiological study from rat to man

    Författare :Ulrika Hägg Samuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; endothelial function; coronary flow velocity reserve; colour Doppler echocardiography; oxidative stress; gene expression; stiffness; ultrasound biomicroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is beneficial for the cardiovascular health. Numerous epidemiological studies reveal that physical activity reduces the risk of cardiovascular related death. Nevertheless, the underlying vessel wall specific physiological and molecular mechanisms still remain incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Structure and function of relaxins

    Författare :Linda M. Haugaard-Kedström; Johan Rosengren; Torleif Härd; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; relaxin; insulin-like peptide; peptide hormone; peptide synthesis and NMR; Organic Chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The relaxin/insulin superfamily is a group of peptide hormones that consists of ten members in human, namely relaxins 1-3, insulin-like peptides (INSL) 3-6, insulin and insulin-like growth factors (IGF) I-II. These peptides have various functions in the body, such as regulating growth, blood glucose levels,  collagen metabolism, germ cell maturation and appetite. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Laser Doppler Perfusion Monitoring and Imaging especially as regards testing for sympathetic nerve function

    Författare :Carolin Freccero; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; wavelength; sympathetic vasodilatation; sympathetic vasoconstriction; sympathetic nerve function; parasympathetic nerve function; laser Doppler perfusion imaging; laser Doppler perfusion monitoring; finger skin blood flow; fibre separation; contralateral cooling; Concentration; Fysiologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Diagnostik; Diagnostics;

    Sammanfattning : The operating principle of all laser Doppler methods is based on the fact that incident photons shift in wavelength when interacting with moving blood cells passing through the microvascular network. After photodetection and further signal processing, the recorded parameter can be considered an arbitrary measure of tissue blood flow, and this is referred to as ?perfusion?. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Measuring Health : On the Theoretical Foundations of Health Status Evaluations

    Författare :Amanda Thorell; Sören Häggqvist; Richard Dawid; Elselijn Kingma; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; biostatistical theory; disease; disposition; efficiency; function; health; pathology; philosophy of medicine; physiology; reference class; filosofi; Philosophy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about the notions of health and pathology in medical theory. I develop a theory, which defines ‘health’ and ‘pathology’ in a way that solves several problems with earlier suggestions of how to define these terms. I call the theory ‘the disposition profile efficiency theory’, abbreviated ‘the DPE-theory’. LÄS MER
