  1. 6. Search for Gamma-ray Lines from Dark Matter with the Fermi Large Area Telescope

    Författare :Tomi Ylinen; Mark Pearce; Jan Conrad; Staffan Carius; James T. Linnemann; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fermi; Large Area Telescope; gamma-rays; dark matter; spectral lines; beam test; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Dark matter (DM) constitutes one of the most intriguing but so far unresolved issues in physics. In many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics, the existence of a stable Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) is predicted. The WIMP is an excellent DM particle candidate. 2. 7. B-physics potential of the ATLAS experiment and performance of the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker

    Författare :Chafik Driouichi; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; B-physics; LHC; Bc meson; Elementary particle physics; Transition Radiation Tracker; quantum field theory; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Driouichi;

    Sammanfattning : The ATLAS experiment is one of the four experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is supposed to be operational in early 2007. Proton-proton collisions at an unprecedented center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV will probe new frontiers of the universe, hopefully providing a better understanding of the laws governing our universe. 3. 8. Development of Detector Systems for Internal and Fixed Target Heavy Ion Physics Experiments

    Författare :Pavel Golubev; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multi-detector system; VLSI electronics; ultra-thin detectors; heavy ion reactions; nuclear intensity interferometry; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; ultra-high vacuum compatibility; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Golubev;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with intermediate energy heavy ion reactions with the particular aim to study the nuclear matter equation of state which defines the relation between statistical parameters of a fermionic system. The development of equipment for two experiments, CA47 at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden and R16 at Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut (KVI), Groningen, The Netherlands, are described. 4. 9. Hadron Physics in a Polarized World : Exploring Electromagnetic Interactions with Spin Observables

    Författare :Viktor Thorén; Andrzej Kupsc; Karin Schönning; Magnus Wolke; David Ireland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron; Hyperon; Meson; Polarization; Spin observables; Electromagnetic interactions; BESIII; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The electromagnetic interactions of hadrons serve as a valuable probe of the nature of the strong force at low energies and simultaneously allow for tests of fundamental discrete symmetries. In this thesis, I show how polarization observables can be used to gain an in-depth understanding of these processes and present two analyses of data from the BESIII experiment where such observables have been studied. 5. 10. Instrumentation development for physics with antiproton beams

    Författare :Klas Marcks von Würtemberg; Per-Erik Tegnér; Eberhard Widmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarises work done in the preparation for the PANDA (antiproton ANnihilations at DArmstadt) experiment, that will be built at the HESR (High Energy Storage Ring) at FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) and for the PAX (Polarised Antiproton eXperiment) experiment proposed for the HESR.For PANDA, characteristics of the electromagnetic calorimeter have been measured at the tagged photon beam facility at the MAX IV laboratory for 61 photon energies in the range 12-63 MeV.
