  1. 11. Coal and Oil: The Dark Monarchs of Global Energy : Understanding Supply and Extraction Patterns and their Importance for Future Production

    Författare :Mikael Höök; Kjell Aleklett; David Rutledge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oil production; coal production; depletion rate; forecasting; energy supply; Physics; Fysik; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Physical planning; Fysisk planläggning; Other engineering physics; Övrig teknisk fysik; Physics with specialization in Global Energy Resources; Fysik med inriktning mot globala energiresurser;

    Sammanfattning : The formation of modern society has been dominated by coal and oil, and together these two fossil fuels account for nearly two thirds of all primary energy used by mankind.  This makes future production a key question for future social development and this thesis attempts to answer whether it is possible to rely on an assumption of ever increasing production of coal and oil. 2. 12. Monte Carlo particle transport codes for ion beam therapy treatment planning : Validation, development and applications

    Författare :Till Tobias Böhlen; Irena Gudowska; Oliver Jäkel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Monte Carlo; ion beam therapy; treatment planning; cancer therapy; microdosimetry; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : External radiotherapy with proton and ion beams needs accurate tools for the dosimetric characterization of treatment fields. Monte Carlo (MC) particle transport codes, such as FLUKA and GEANT4, can be a valuable method to increase accuracy of dose calculations and to support various aspects of ion beam therapy (IBT), such as treatment planning and monitoring. 3. 13. Nature conservation, landscape change and indigenous rights : The role of Sámi reindeer herding for environmental objectives in the Swedish mountain landscape

    Författare :Carl Österlin; Ingrid Stjernquist; Peter Schlyter; Camilla Eriksson; Urban Emanuelsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Land use planning; Cumulative Effects; Reindeer herding; Natural resource extraction; Environmental Management; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The 14th Swedish national environmental objective, ‘a Magnificent Mountain Landscape’, requires a mountain landscape characterized by reindeer grazing. The Swedish mountains landscape, part of the Scandes, has been shaped by traditional indigenous Sámi reindeer herding and its grazed environments are dependent on reindeer. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Optimization of brachytherapy for cervical cancer using inverse planning algorithms

    Författare :Lucilio dos Santos Matias; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Brígida da Costa Ferreira; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brachytherapy; treatment planning optimization; IPSA; HIPO; radiobiology; complicationfree; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Carcinoma of the cervix is a global problem. Brachytherapy (BT) is one of the mainradiation therapy components used in the management of cervical cancer. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Unravelling Sustainability : The complex dynamics of emergent environmental governance and management systems at multiple scales

    Författare :Lucas Dawson; Ingrid Stjernquist; Marine Elbakidze; Raimonds Ernsteins; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis adopts a complex systems approach to investigate the dynamic emergence of sustainable environmental governance and management systems in multiple contexts in Europe. Accelerating rates of environmental degradation across the world have called the legitimacy of previous environmental governance and management arrangements into question. LÄS MER
