16. Daily Physical Activity, Body Fat and Aerobic Fitness in Children
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Physical inactivity, low aerobic fitness and obesity are all associated with an increased risk of a wide range of diseases in adults. Promotion of physical activity, improvement of aerobic fitness and regulation of body weight in children may be of importance, as low physical activity, low aerobic fitness and obesity early in life have been known to track into adulthood. 17. Mathematical Models of Molecular Evolution
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with mathematical models of Darwinian evolution in populations of simple living organisms. We study models which describe how the representation of different gene sequences in the population is affected by the fundamental forces of evolutionary processes, such as selection pressure, the mutation rate and the time dynamics of the underlying fitness landscape. 18. Sceletal muscle characteristics and physical activity patterns in COPD
Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Besides abnormities within the respiratory system COPD is also associated with effects outside the lungs, so called systemic effects. LÄS MER
19. The role of physical activity for recovery after surgical procedures
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to determine the association between and effect of preoperative physical activity and postoperative recovery after surgery due to gallbladder disease or colorectal cancer. Paper I examined the association between self-reported level of physical activity before cholecystectomy and postoperative recovery in an observational cohort study. LÄS MER
20. Adolescent nutrition in rural Bangladesh : Studies on diet, cardiometabolic indicators, physical activity and fitness in the MINIMat cohort
Sammanfattning : Adolescent nutrition is crucial for curbing non-communicable disease burden among transitioning populations in resource-limited settings. This thesis explored the gender and socio-economic stratification of diet, physical activity (PA) and fitness, and the relationship of these modifiable dimensions of nutrition with cardiometabolic risk among adolescents of a birth cohort in rural Bangladesh.
