  1. 1. Breathing Pattern and Lung Mechanics during Assisted Ventilation Response of Slowly Adapting Pulmonary Stretch Receptors and Effects on Phrenic Nerve Activity in Cats with Normal and Surfactant Depleted Lungs

    Författare :Richard Sindelar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; slowly adapting pulmonary stretch receptor; phrenic nerve activity; assisted ventilation; surfactant; breathing pattern; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Different modes of assisted ventilation were investigated in cats before and after lung lavage and after instillation of surfactant. The activity of single units of slowly adapting pulmonary stretch receptors (PSRs) in the vagal nerve and the integrated phrenic nerve activity were recorded. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Optimizing mechanical ventilation in extremely preterm infants

    Författare :Linda Wallström; Richard Sindelar; Anders Jonzon; Raffaele Dellaca'; Heikki Lukkarinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical ventilation; extremely preterm infant; forced oscillation technique; volume targeted ventilation; proportional assist ventilation; phrenic nerve activity; electrical activity of the diaphragm; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Extremely low gestational age newborns (ELGANs) i.e. infants born before 28 weeks of gestational age (GA), require respiratory support during their hospital stay, and a majority needs mechanical ventilation (MV) at some time point. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of Breathing under Different Pulmonary Conditions

    Författare :Esther Rieger-Fackeldey; Gunnar Sedin; Anders Jonzon; Richard Sindelar; Andreas Schulze; Richard Martin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Control of breathing; Pulmonary Stretch Receptor; Phrenic Nerve Activity; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Surfactant; Partial Liquid Ventilation; Assisted Ventilation; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The breathing pattern of preterm infants is immature and is associated with a variety of reflexes. In a patient on the ventilator these reflexes interfere with spontaneous breathing. A better understanding of the immature control of breathing could lead to further improvements in ventilatory techniques. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Clinical and experimental studies on the diaphragm during physiological and pathophysio-logical conditions

    Författare :Antonella Lo Mauro; Peter Frykholm; Andrea Aliverti; Anders Larsson; Stephen Edward Rees; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :diaphragm; animal model; phrenic nerve injury; pregnancy; lung transplan- tation; stereotactic body radiation therapy; anesthesia; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The diaphragm is the most important respiratory muscle. It separates the thorax from the abdomen and it is innervated by phrenic nerve. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the interaction between a neuromuscular blocking agent and regulation of breathing during hypoxia

    Författare :Nicholas Wyon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neuromuscular block; TOF ratio; vecuronium; ventilatory response; chemoreceptors; carotid body;

    Sammanfattning : It was previously generally agreed that a mechanical train-of-four (TOF) ratio >0.70 represented an adequate recovery of respiratory function after neuromuscular blockade. Normal respiratory parameters at this level of recovery and during air breathing support this view. LÄS MER
