6. Structure-Property Relationships of Iron N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes : Synthesis, Characterization and Application
Sammanfattning : Resulting from the general availability of first-row transition metals, compared to their second- and third-row counterparts, photosensitizers (PSs) based on metals like iron have gained interest as candidates to enable photochemistry from solar energy, a largely underutilized energy source. Iron complexes equivalent to other metal complexes, currently being used as PS, do lack some of the advantageous properties required to challenge the established PSs. LÄS MER
7. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs
Sammanfattning : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 8. Photodynamic therapy and laser-based diagnostic studies of malignant tumours
Sammanfattning : Two non-thermal regimens of light interaction with biological tissue, that are in a natural way connected, are discussed in the present thesis. These are photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of malignant tumours and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) for tissue characterization. LÄS MER
9. Artificial Photosynthesis: Molecular Catalysts for Water Oxidation
Sammanfattning : Artificial photosynthesis provides a promising solution to the future sustainable energy system. Water is the only suitably sufficient protons and electrons supplier by the reaction of water oxidation. However, this reaction is both kinetically and thermodynamically demanding, leading to a sluggish kinetics unless the introduction of a catalyst. LÄS MER
10. Beyond Classical Ruthenium(II) Polypyridyl Complexes : Photosensitizers as Building Blocks For Linear Donor-Photosensitizer-Acceptor Assemblies
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes ruthenium(II) polypyridyl-type complexes tailored for artificial photosynthesis. Inspired by Nature, the primary events in photosystem II are mimicked by donor-photosensitizer-acceptor (D-P-A) assemblies. LÄS MER
