16. Transition Metal Hydrides : Biomimetic Studies and Catalytic Applications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies of the nature of different transition metal-hydride complexes are described. The first part deals with the enantioswitchable behaviour of rhodium complexes derived from amino acids, applied in asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. LÄS MER
17. Blue Laser Source for Laser-Induced Fluorescence
Sammanfattning : Laser-induced fluorescence is a clinical diagnostic tool, used for tumor demarcation and detection. The technique relies on the injection or topical application of a light sensitive drug called a photosensitizer. This substance has the ability to be accumulated to higher concentrations in cancer cells than in normal cells. LÄS MER
18. Light-Induced Routes to Sustainable Biocrudes for Fuels and Lubricant Oils
Sammanfattning : Fossil-based hydrocarbons are at present the ideal compounds for jet fuels and lubricant oils, so their replacement by novel technologies is not easy. Instead, sustainable routes to hydrocarbons, such as sunlight-driven processes, are desired to reduce the environmental impact by the transport sector. LÄS MER
19. Mimicking Photosystem II with Manganese Model Complexes to Approach Artificial Photosynthesis
Sammanfattning : The work in thesis aims for artificial photosyntesis, which could and will mimic natural photosynthesis, the process that uses light to create energy rich compounds from H2O and CO2. Water is oxidized in Photosystem II (PSII) by the Water Oxidizing Complex (WOC), which is a catalytic site on the lumenal side of the thylakoid membrane. LÄS MER
20. Exploring nanosystems for biomedical applications focusing on photodynamic therapy and drug delivery
Sammanfattning : The increasing incidences of cancer and related deaths call for the development of new and improved treatment modalities. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) today is an alternative to conventional treatments, but has limitations. This thesis explores different nanosystems with aim to improve PDT focusing on spectroscopic and ex vivo studies. LÄS MER
