  1. 11. Porphyrins and heme in microorganisms : Porphyrin content and its relation to phototherapy and antimicrobial treatments in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Jonas Fyrestam; Conny Östman; Jonas Bergquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porphyrins; heme; phototherapy; antimicrobial resistance; singlet oxygen; photosensitizer; bacteria; HPLC-MS MS; oral bacteria; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Escherichia coli; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the greatest threats to human health is increasing antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, and finding alternatives for treatment of bacterial infections is of highest importance together with a more controlled use of antibiotics. Porphyrins and heme have both been shown to be a promising class of compounds for inactivation of bacteria; porphyrins by their excellent properties to act as a photosensitizer, and heme by its importance as an iron source during a bacterial infection in vertebrates. 2. 12. Development of photoreceptor organs in teleosts, Molecular and immunocytochemical studies

    Författare :Johan Forsell; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; opsin; extraretinal; retina; Development; pineal organ; Zoology; Zoologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many vertebrate animals are known to have multiple sites for photoreception that are not involved in vision. Extraretinal photoreception is indicated to play a crucial role in early development, physiology and behavior, as well as in later biological processes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Lupus Nephritis – Genetic Impact on Clinical Phenotypes, Disease Severity and Renal Outcome

    Författare :Karin Bolin; Gunnel Nordmark; Lars Rönnblom; Inger Gjertsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Nephritis; Lupus Nephritis; Genetics; STAT4; BANK1; C1q Deficiency; Renal Insufficiency; End-Stage Renal Disease; Sex Differences; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that can affect every organ system. Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the more serious SLE manifestations. Whilst the genetic background of SLE has been thoroughly investigated, less is known about the background of LN. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Genetic studies of the HLA locus in rheumatic diseases

    Författare :Emeli Lundström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) share a complex etiology consisting of both genetic and environmental components. Stimulation of lymphocytes and various other immune cells, release of cytokines, activation of complement and production of autoantibodies due to loss of tolerance to self-antigens, contributes to the pathogenesis of both RA and SLE. 5. 15. Photocontact Allergy to Ketoprofen and Simultaneous Contact Allergies

    Författare :Victoria Marmgren; Yrkes- och miljödermatologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ketoprofen; photoallergic contact dermatitis; cross-reactions; photoallergic; photopatch testing; Fragrance; patch testing; simultaneous reactions; occlusion;

    Sammanfattning : Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is available in both oral and topical formulations. Photocontact allergy to topically applied ketoprofen has been the most frequent side effect of the formulation, and is fairly well studied. LÄS MER
