1. Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Induced Luminescence Studies of Semiconductor Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats scanning tunneling luminescence (STL) investigations of semiconductor nanostructures. The STL technique combines scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with detection of photons, induced by the tunneling electrons. The high spatial resolution in STM and the local excitation allow for optical investigations on the nanometer-scale. LÄS MER
2. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging of Turbid Media
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with optical spectroscopy and imaging of complex and strongly scattering turbid media. Focus is mainly placed on three topics, being i) diffuse optical spectroscopy of choroidal tumors, ii) gas spectroscopy in scattering materials using the GASMAS (gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy) technique, and iii) luminescence diffuse optical imaging and tomography of tissues. 3. Investigation of Ultrafast Molecular Dynamics via Covariance Mapping : A Tool for Intense XUV Light Sources
Sammanfattning : The study of molecular dynamics involves observations of the motion of nuclei and electrons. While nuclear motion is usually on the picosecond or femtosecond timescale, attosecond precision is necessary to directly observe the motion of electrons. LÄS MER
4. Ionization of large molecules with short laser pulses
Sammanfattning : The decay dynamics of fullerenes and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) after femtosecond-laser excitation have been studied experimentally by electron momentum mapping and mass spectrometry. The electron spectra of fullerenes and large PAH-molecules were found to be exponentially decreasing with energy without any distinct peaks outside the photon energy. LÄS MER
5. Protons, other Light Ions, and 60Co Photons : Study of Energy Deposit Clustering via Track Structure Simulations
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy aims to sterilize cancer cells through ionization induced damages to their DNA whilst trying to reduce dose burdens to healthy tissues. This can be achieved to a certain extent by optimizing the choice of radiation to treat the patient, i.e. the types of particles and their energy based on their specific interaction patterns. LÄS MER
