  1. 1. The Ecophysiology of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi: Phosphatase Activity Associated with Extraradical and Intraradical Mycelium

    Författare :Ingrid van Aarle; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Scutellospora; polyphosphate; phosphorus uptake; phosphorus transfer; phosphatase; pH; mycelium; Glomus; fatty acid; Gigaspora; arbuscular mycorrhiza; ELF;

    Sammanfattning : Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi colonise a wide range of plant species and are especially common in soils with a relatively high pH, where phosphorus availability is a limiting factor for primary production. The aim of this thesis was to study the ecophysiology of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi when exposed to different environments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of mycorrhiza symbiosis and phosphorus nutrition in plant growth, photosynthesis and secondary metabolism

    Författare :Lisa Adolfsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arbuscular mycorrhiza; Plant; Phosphorus; Secondary metabolism; Photosynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : Inorganic phosphorus (Pi) is an important and often limiting nutrient for plants. Large amounts of Pi fertilizers derived from non-renewable rock phosphorus, are used in agriculture. These are applied in excess but crops take up only a small amount of Pi; the residual Pi ends up in water systems where it causes problems with eutrophication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phosphorus recycling in brackish and marine environments - Sediment investigations in situ in the Baltic Sea and the By Fjord

    Författare :Lena Viktorsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus; sediment; anoxia; Baltic Sea; By Fjord; benthic flux;

    Sammanfattning : The phosphorus load to the oceans from land started to increase since around 1950 when man started to mine phosphorus-mineral from phosphorus-rich soils and bedrock. The increased use of phosphorus fertilizers in agriculture together with the growth of coastal cities increased the load of phosphorus to the coastal ocean where plankton production flourished. 4. 4. Treatment of domestic wastewater using microbiological processes and hydroponics in Sweden

    Författare :Anna Norström; Gunnel Dalhammar; Jörgen Hanaeus; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; biological; hydroponics; microbial composition; nitrogen; organic matter; phosphorus; small scale; theoretical energy requirements; wastewater treatment.; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Conventional end-of-pipe solutions for wastewater treatment have been criticized from a sustainable view-point, in particular regarding recycling of nutrients. The integration of hydroponic cultivation into a wastewater treatment system has been proposed as an ecological alternative, where nutrients can be removed from the wastewater through plant uptake; however, cultivation of plants in a temperate climate, such as Sweden, implies that additional energy is needed during the colder and darker period. 5. 5. Removal of metals from contaminated waters : Evaluating the use of synthetic adsorbents and green algae biomass

    Författare :Roxana Quiroga Flores; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metals; toxicity; Adsorption; uptake; arsenic; cadmium; lead; methylmercury;

    Sammanfattning : Metal contamination of water bodies has attracted global attention owing to its environmental toxicity, abundance and persistence. Metals such as arsenic, cadmium and mercury are of greater concern since they are toxic even at low concentrations. LÄS MER
