6. Lifetime Surface Phosphor Thermometry - Technique Developments, Sources of Error, and Applications
Sammanfattning : Temperature is not only a fundamental aspect of everyday life, but it is also an essential metric for thermal conversion systems concerning efficiency, emissions, and component lifetime estimation. Therefore, a vast range of different methods to measure temperature has been developed. LÄS MER
7. Development and Application of Laser-Induced Emission Techniques for Combustion Diagnostics -High-Resolution Visualization of Turbulent Reacting Flows
Sammanfattning : Nowadays, more than 90% of our energy comes from combustion processes. Hence, it is very important to perform combustion research to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, find clean and renewable fuels, strengthen safety, etc. LÄS MER
8. Excitation and Excited State Properties of Heterocyclic Chromophores. Indole and Purine Derivatives of Biological Significance
Sammanfattning : Proteins and nucleic acids absorb light in the near-UV due to the presence of aromatic heterocyclic chromophores. In this work linear dichroism (LD) in combination with fluorescence polarization anisotropy (FPA) and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is used to investigate electronic excitations and excited states of indole derivatives, purine derivatives, the wye base, 2-phenylindole and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI). 9. Electronic characterization of molecules with application to organic light emitting diodes
Sammanfattning : The presented thesis is devoted to the field of organic light emittingdiodes (OLEDs). Time-dependent Kohn-Sham density functional theory(TDDFT) is applied in order to eludicate optical properties such as fluorescence andphosphorescence for some of the most important materials. LÄS MER
10. Charge-transfer excitations and phtophysical properties of molecular building blocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports a state-of-the-art theoretical study of photophysical properties of organic charge-transfer aromatic molecules. These molecules are building blocks of molecular functional materials used in modern photonics technology and play essential roles in chemistry and biology in general. LÄS MER
