16. Studies on coactosin-like protein interaction with 5-lipoxygenase
Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes (LTs) are proinflammatory lipid mediators derived from polyunsaturated arachidonic acid, which is ester-bound at the sn-2 position of glycerol in cellular phospholipid bilayers. In LTs biosynthesis, 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) represents the key enzyme, which catalyzes two initial steps. LÄS MER
17. Initiation of alternative pathway of complement, and development of novel liposomal coatings
Sammanfattning : The complement system is a central part of the innate immune system, and is an essential part in recognizing and clearing non/altered-self surfaces in the body. This thesis comprises of projects in which the initiation of the alternative pathway (AP) of complement in the fluid phase as well on various artificial and lipid surfaces has been studied. LÄS MER
18. Metabolic engineering of Crambe abyssinica for producing high erucic acid oil
Sammanfattning : Vegetable oils are renewable and more environmentally friendly than fossil oils, and thus are good alternatives to fossil oils for industrial applications. Erucic acid (C22:1Δ13) is a valuable feedstock in the chemical industry. The current plant sources for erucic acid production are high erucic acid rapeseed (HEAR) and mustard. LÄS MER
19. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems
Sammanfattning : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 20. Metabolic variations in canine overweight : aspects of lipid metabolism in spontaneously overweight Labrador Retriever dogs
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of overweight in dogs is increasing. Canine overweight is associated with reduced quality of life, shorter life expectancy and metabolic variations such as insulin resistance and postprandial hyperlipidaemia. LÄS MER
