11. Drug Delivery to the Brain by Liposomes : Understanding Factors Governing Delivery Outcomes In Vivo
Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is the primary obstacle for efficient drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). One promising strategy to enhance brain delivery is to utilize nanocarriers (NC), e.g., liposomes, encapsulating CNS drugs. LÄS MER
12. Analysis of Endogenous Particles in Exhaled Air
Sammanfattning : Exhaled air contains non-volatile particulate material from the respiratory tract. The precise location in which exhaled particles are formed is unknown, and details on their chemical content are scarce. The aim of this work was to chemically characterize and to study the mechanisms of formation of endogenous particles in exhaled air. LÄS MER
13. Formation of Block Copolymer and Surfactant Vesicles
Sammanfattning : In this thesis temperature induced vesicle formation in both a block copolymer system and nonionic surfactant system have been investigated. The block copolymer is a triblock copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), PEO-PPO-PEO, with the average molecular composition of EO5PO68EO5 and the commercial trade name Pluronic L121 (papers I, II). 14. Platelet-activating factor and lysophospatidylcholine in oxidized low density lipoprotein-mediated immune activation
Sammanfattning : Inflammation is a risk factor for development of cardiovascular disease, as in addition to known risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking and diabetes. Patients with inflammatory diseases including SLE have an enhanced risk of cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER
15. Role of phospholipids in neurodegenerative diseases
Sammanfattning : The structure and composition of brain phospholipids, including also their ether analogues, were investigated and modifications during neurodegeneration were analysed. In order to improve sensitivity and reproducibility, new HPLC methods were developed for separation and quantitation of phospholipids and plasmalogens, followed by quantitation of fatty acids and aldehydes.
