Sammanfattning : The intercellular material in bone is a nanocomposite of aligned “hard” inorganics—calcium phosphate (CaP) platelets embedded in the long-range ordered “soft” organic collagen matrix. This elaborate structural arrangement redeems the weaknesses of the individual components (being soft protein or brittle mineral) and gives bone its excellent mechanical properties for the protection and support of our bodies. 3. Studies on nucleic acids chemistry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into three parts: Part 1: Synthesis and conformational analysis of cyclic RNAs, and comparison with lariat RNAs modelling the lariat formed during processing of Group II and Nuclear pre-mRNA. Synthesis of a hexameric lariat RNA model with a tetranucleotidyl "2' → 5' loop" and a dinucleotidyl "3'-tail" has been accomplished. LÄS MER

5. Towards synthesis of biologically important phosphate analogues : exploring H-phosphonate and C-phosphonate chemistry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on studies directed towards the development of methods for the preparation of phosphorus containing natural products, with the focus on C-phosphonate nucleic acid analogues.Mechanistic studies concerning formation of the phosphorus-carbon bond resulted in development of two efficient protocols for the synthesis of C-phosphonates from the corresponding H-phosphonate derivatives.
