21. Effect of water on the glass transition and properties of solid-state pharmaceutical formulations
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge of the glassy state and the glass transition phenomenon and to evaluate the effect of water on the glassy state. To accomplish this, investigations were focused on the amorphous sucrose-water (paper I, II, III), trehalose-water (paper I), maltodextrin-water (paper I), and lysozyme-sucrose-water (paper IV) systems. 22. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs
Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. 23. Drug Diffusion and Nano Excipient Formation Studied by Electrodynamic Methods
Sammanfattning : New smart drugs demand new smart drug delivery systems and also new smart analysis methods for the drug delivery process and material characterization. This thesis contributes to the field by introducing a new electrodynamic approach for studying the drug diffusion proc-esses as well as the formation of a new type of drug delivery systems, the so called mesoporous nano excipients. 24. Investigating polymorphism in small molecules using three-dimensional electron diffraction
Sammanfattning : For scientific, regulatory and intellectual property reasons, the discovery and characterisation of polymorphic systems is an integral aspect of the development process of any solid-formulated drug product. Yet, these studies are often hindered by crystal quality and size, poor yields and the generation of mixtures of phases. LÄS MER
25. Resonant Microwave Sensors for Industrial Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents developments in the area of microwave-based sensor systems for industrial applications. The work is motivated by a need for advanced measurement techniques in industry in general, and the process industry in particular. LÄS MER
