1. Epidemiology and etiology of childhood fractures in southern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: As much as 40–50% of children are expected to sustain fractures during growth. A childhood fracture is alsoassociated with high risk of fractures in adult life. Previous research has shown that fracture incidence has not been stable andsome studies suggest that this has also continued during recent decades. LÄS MER
2. Hips at risk osteoporosis and prevention of hip fractures
Sammanfattning : Hip fractures are the most serious consequence of osteoporosis, and are one important cause of morbidity and mortality among the elderly. Prophylactic treatment for hip fractures are now available. Early detection of individuals with increased risk for hip fractures is therefor of great interest. LÄS MER
3. Risk factors for falls and fractures in elderly women. The Malmö OPRA study
Sammanfattning : Approximately half of all women will sustain a fracture after the age of 50. Fractures may cause long-term disability and excess mortality. Identifying individuals at high risk of sustaining a fracture is important in the development of primary and secondary prevention strategies. LÄS MER
4. Observations on morphology and function of cutaneous and subcutaneous sensory mechanoreceptors : an experimental study in mammals
Sammanfattning : Tactile sensory discrimination is dependent upon an intact system of peripheral mechanoreceptors, their nerve fibre afferents with cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion and the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system which relays tactile information from the skin to the cortex. Injury to any part of the afferent pathways leads to compromised mechanoreceptive perception. LÄS MER
5. Working Animals and Skeletal Lesions : Paleopathology of Cattle and Horse in Iron Age and Medieval Öland, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Central to this thesis is the relationship between animal husbandry practices and the associated pathological conditions. Since bone elements from the extremities are subjected to abnormal load when animals are put to hard work this research aims to go further and interpret the prevalence of varying lesions and their connection with animal husbandry by using methods such as osteometric analysis, conventional radiograpic and bone mineral study, as well as incorporated molecular analysis.
