  1. 11. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach

    Författare :Mikael Gustafsson; Erik Gylfe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes; locomotion; phagocytosis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; membrane transport; intracellular free calcium; cellular pH; water influx; actin dynamics; digital video microscopy; image processing; fura-2; BCECF; DII; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host

    Författare :Ulrika Ringdahl; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; fibrinogen; phagocytosis; platelet; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; Mikrobiologi; mycology; Infektioner; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : We have found that a set of group A streptococcal strains, primarily associated with skin infections, express surface-associated M proteins that bind plasminogen and plasmin with high affinity. The binding is mediated by a common 13 amino acid internal repeated sequence located in the NH2-terminal surface-exposed portion of these M proteins. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The importance of monocyte and granulocyte activation in rheumatoid arthritis and primary Sjögren's syndrome

    Författare :Ingunn Torsteinsdóttir; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Rheumatoid arthritis; primary Sjögren s syndrome; peripheral blood; monocyte; macrophage; neutrophil; eosinophil; adhesion; phagocytosis; respiratory burst; CRP; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages and neutrophils infiltrate the synovium and synovial fluid in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These cells are considered to contribute to the destructive process in RA.The expression of adhesion and phagocytosis receptors on the surface of peripheral granulocytes and monocytes was increased in patients with RA. 4. 14. Modulatory role of IL-17 in airway inflammation

    Författare :Elin Silverpil; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Respiratory medicine; Lung; IL-17; IL-23; Macrophages; Neutrophils; T cells; Apoptosis; Phagocytosis; Airways;

    Sammanfattning : IL-17 orchestrates the accumulation of neutrophils to sites of infection and the release of microbicidal substances, and therefore plays a critical role in the innate immune response to infection. IL-17 is also involved in certain chronic inflammatory diseases in which dysfunctional control of neutrophil accumulation and turnover constitutes an important pathogenic factor. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Interactions between Streptococcus pyogenes and the human immune system, with special reference to C4b-binding protein

    Författare :Anette Thern; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; Phagocytosis; M-proteins; M-like proteins; Bovine C4b-binding protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; Human C4b-binding protein; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of many pathogenic microorganisms to cause infection is dependent on their ability to evade attack by the complement system of the host. One mechanism by which microorganisms may avoid complement attack is to bind complement inhibitory molecules present in the host. LÄS MER
