  1. 1. Effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin and L-arginine on microvascular permeability and perfusion

    Författare :Cornelia Lundblad; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; skeletal muscle; Rho kinase; prostacyclin; permeability; NO; experimental brain trauma; brain edema; brain contusion; microcirculation; cerebral perfusion;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents some effects of Rho kinase, prostacyclin (PGI2) and nitric oxide (NO) in relation to trauma and inflammation by evaluating their effects on microvascular perfusion and permeability in mouse brain and in cat skeletal muscle. PGI2 and NO are endogenous vasoactive substances produced by the endothelium. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on anti-inflammatory and vasoactive effects of mPGES-1 inhibition

    Författare :Julia Steinmetz-Späh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is the basis for various serious illnesses such as rheumatic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a pro-inflammatory lipid mediator produced by cyclooxygenases (COX1/2) and the microsomal prostaglandin E synthase 1 (mPGES-1). LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Microcirculation in Trauma and Sepsis

    Författare :Peter Bansch; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microcirculation; prostacyclin; plasma vilume; trauma; sepsis; sidestream darkfield imaging; albumin; volume expansion; transcapillary escape rate; glycocalyx; charge;

    Sammanfattning : The microcirculation plays a vital part for fluid-, gas- and solute-exchange, and changes in permeability during trauma or sepsis, that are in part necessary for the natural healing process, may also cause hypovolemia and edema formation, leading to disturbances in microvascular exchange. This thesis discusses changes is microvascular flow, permeability and plasma volume (PV) loss after experimental or surgical trauma and experimental sepsis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regional pulmonary vasoreactivity, with special reference to nitric oxide, prostacyclin and body posture

    Författare :Danguolé Rimeika; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Regional pulmonary perfusion; nitric oxide; prostacyclin; NOS-inhibition; COX-inhibition; shunt; one-lung ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of the study was to investigate possible mechanisms behind the improved arterial oxygenation in ventilator-treated patients with acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) when turned into prone position. A secondary aim was to discover new knowledge of possible importance for treatment of patients with oxygenation problems in intensive care and during anesthesia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Pleiotropic effects of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors : studies in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Cristine Skogastierna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the prime cause of death in industrialized countries, resulting from the progression of atherosclerotic lesions. An increased level of plasma cholesterol, particularly within low-density lipoproteins, is a principle risk factor, but also elevated triglycerides and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
