  1. 1. EXPOSURE TO PERSISTENT ORGANOCHLORINE POLLUTANTS AND MALE SEMEN FUNCTION

    Författare :Anna Rignell-Hydbom; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Miljömedicin; Environmental health; epididymal and accessory sex gland function; Y:X sperm chromosome ratio; sperm chromation integrity; sperm concentration; sperm motility; persistent organochlorine poluutants;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent organochlorine pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and the insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-dichloro-ethylene (DDT) have been released into the environment mainly since the second World War. POPs accumulate especially in highly ranked predators of the aquatic food chain. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Legacy persistent organic pollutants and chemicals of emerging concern in Sweden : from indoor environments to remote areas

    Författare :Seth Newton; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Per Larsson; Annika Jahnke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; atmospheric deposition; arctic; flame retardant; POP; long range transport; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Bulk atmospheric deposition samples were taken every two months for a year in 2009-2010 at two sites in northern Sweden and analyzed for a suite of legacy and emerging persistent organic chemicals including legacy organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)  and novel flame retardants (NFRs).  To further investigate the urban occurrence and contribution to remote contamination of flame retardants, indoor air, ventilation system air, and dust were sampled in several microenvironments in Stockholm during the winter of 2012 for analysis of PBDEs, isomer-specific hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD), and NFRs. 3. 3. Organohalogen contaminants in wildlife from the Yangtze River Delta : Development of methods and assessments of legacy and emerging persistent organic pollutants

    Författare :Ge Yin; Åke Bergman; Gang Yu; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organochlorine pesticides; flame retardants; chlorinated paraffins; PCBs; PCDEs; PBDEs; PCDD Fs; dicofol; environmental monitoring; bioindicator; shellfish; snail; bird eggs; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Rapid economic development has occurred during the past few decades in China with the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) area as one of the most progressive areas. The urbanization, industrialization, agricultural and aquaculture activities result in extensive production and application of chemicals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Persistent environmental pollutants and risk of cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Tessa Schillemans; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent chemicals emitted in the environment can have a considerable impact on ecosystems and human health, now and in the future. One notorious group of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Child labour and health hazards: chemical exposure and occupational injuries in Nicaraguan children working in a waste disposal site

    Författare :Steven Cuadra; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; child labor; waste disposal sites; health hazards; heavy metals; persistent organochlorine pollutants; brominated flame retardants; occupational injuries; Nicaragua; barnarbete; avfallshanteringsplatser; hälsorisker; tungmetaller; beständiga klororganiska föroreningar; bromerade flamskyddsmedel; yrkesskador; Nicaragua;

    Sammanfattning : About 600 children and teenagers work at Managua's landfill, the largest in Nicaragua. They collect and sort waste at the open dump, which covers an area of 7 km2 on the outskirts of the city on the shores of Lake Managua. LÄS MER
