  1. 1. Molecular studies of genetic changes in myxoid and round cell liposarcoma

    Författare :Sofia Järnum; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; oncology; Cytology; autocrine loop; RDA; persephin; RET; LEPREL1; translocation; fusion gene; liposarcoma; TLS; CHOP;

    Sammanfattning : Chromosomal translocations commonly result in the production of fusion genes and the fusion genes are often tumor-type specific. In myxoid and round cell liposarcomas (MLS/RCLS), almost 95% of the cases carry a t(12;16)(q13;p11). In the remaining 5% of the MLS/RCLS tumors, another translocation and fusion gene can be found, i.e. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor : expression patterns, neuronal transport, regulation, effects, and receptor dependence

    Författare :Andreas C Tomac; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor GDNF ; neurturin NTN ; persephin PSP ; c Ret proto oncogene Ret ; GPI-linked receptors for the GDNF ligand family GFRas ; transforming growth factor-B TGFB ; Parkinson s disease PD ; dopaminergic DA neurons;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The mammalian nervous system depends upon trophic proteins for survival, growth and adult maintenance. These trophic factors have also been considered as potential therapeutic agents for treating human neurodegenerative disorders. LÄS MER

  3. 3. GDNF family ligands and neural stem cells in Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Peter Åkerud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a very common neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a progressive degeneration of mainly nigrostriatal and mesolimbic dopaminergic neurons leading to tremor, rigidity and hypokinesia, the classical symptoms of the disease. Degeneration of noradrenergic neurons of the locus coeruleus are also involved in the progression of the disease, causing dementia and depression. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Expression and function of GDNF family ligands and receptors in the nervous system

    Författare :Åsa Mikaels; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The search for novel neurotrophic factors promoting dopamine uptake and the survival of central dopaminergic neurons led to the discovery of a novel neurotrophic factor termed glial cell-line derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF). GDNF, neurturin (NTN), artemin (ART) and persephin (PSP) belong to the GDNF family ligands, and are potent survival-promoting factors for subsets of central and peripheral neurons. LÄS MER

  5. 5. GDNF and its receptors : a structure-function analysis of the NCAM-GDNF-GFRalpha1 complex and an examination of potential receptor candidates

    Författare :Dan Sjöstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Neurotrophic factors are small, secreted proteins that are important players in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. Their functions span from neuronal survival and migration to neurite outgrowth and axon guidance, and in some cases even programmed cell death. LÄS MER
