  1. 21. Acyl-CoA thioesterases : auxiliary enzymes in peroxisomal lipid metabolism

    Författare :Maria A K Westin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Peroxisomes are small organelles essential for life, which carry out a variety of functions mostly related to lipid metabolism, including α- and β-oxidation as well as the first steps of plasmalogen biosynthesis. Peroxisomal β-oxidation metabolizes many different lipids including very long-chain fatty acids, dicarboxylic fatty acids, branched-chain fatty acids, eicosanoids and certain xenobiotic fatty acids. 2. 22. Transcriptional activity of PPARγ in primary human adipocytes

    Författare :Lilian Sauma; Fredrik Nyström; Mats Söderström; Jan Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of obesity is increasing in most parts of the world and is a strong risk factor for the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Adipose tissue is mainly composed of adipocytes which store energy in the form of triglycerides and release it as free fatty acids. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Genetics of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome

    Författare :Mia Klannemark; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; PDE3B; PPARG; LPL; metabolic syndrome; diabetes; genetic; HSL; UCP2; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome are highly prevalent disorders with severe complications such as cardiovascular disease. The aetiology of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome is not known, but the interaction between genetic factors and environmental triggers is important. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Peroxisomal and mitochondrial fatty acid metabolism in brown adipose tissue and liver

    Författare :Stefan E. H. Alexson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Brown adipose tissue (BAT) produces heat in response to cold. The heat produced is mainly due to oxidation of fatty acids. In animal tissues, fatty acid 9-oxidation has generally been assumed to occur in mitochondria. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Genetic association studies of symptoms, comorbidity and outcome in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia

    Författare :Dzana Sudic Hukic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are complex brain disorders. Research has focused on applying brain research to understand the etiology, as well as clinical research to improve treatment, prognosis and progression. LÄS MER
