  1. 1. Permanent stoma after anterior resection for rectal cancer : prevalence and mechanisms

    Författare :Klas Holmgren; Martin Rutegård; Jörgen Rutegård; Markku M. Haapamäki; Peter Matthiessen; Malin Sund; Per J. Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rectal cancer; anterior resection; permanent stoma; defunctioning stoma; mesorectal excision; biomarkers; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : While sphincter-saving surgery constitutes standard treatment for rectal cancer, anterior resection still harbours a significant risk of a permanent stoma in the long run. Although anastomotic leakage plays a major role in this surgical dilemma, the exact mechanisms are not known, while surveys indicate a stoma-free outcome is essential for a majority of patients. 2. 2. Stomas from a rural perspective : an evaluation of characteristics, differences and improvement opportunities

    Författare :Simon Näverlo; Karin Strigård; Ulf Gunnarsson; Anette Edin-Liljegren; Ingvar Syk; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rural; defunctioning stoma; permanent stoma; stoma reversal; distance; quality-of-life; parastomal hernia; mesh; prophylaxis; colostomy; urostomy; ileostomy; content analysis; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Stoma-related complications are common and consequences for the individual patient may be considerable. In rural areas, competence regarding stoma-related problems is largely absent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Rectal cancer surgery : Defunctioning stoma, anastomotic leakage and postoperative monitoring

    Författare :Peter Matthiessen; Olof Hallböök; Rune Sjödahl; Lars Påhlman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anterior resection of the rectum; total mesorectal excision; TME; anastomotic leakage; defunctioning stoma; risk factors; intraoperative adverse events; population based study; postoperative monitoring; CT-scan microdialysis; cytokines; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of the mesorectal spread in rectal cancer has lead to wide acceptance of total mesorectal excision (TME) as the surgical technique of choice for carcinoma in the lower and mid rectum. While oncological results and survival have improved with TME-surgery, morbidity and mortality remain important issues. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Parastomal hernia : investigation and treatment

    Författare :Pia Näsvall; Karin Strigård; Jörgen Rutegård; Ulf Gunnarsson; Michael Dahlberg; Ingvar Syk; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parastomal; hernia; 3D US; ultrasonography; mesh; QoL; rectal cancer; stoma; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundParastomal hernia is a common stoma complication causing the patient considerable inconvenience. The patient becomes aware of a bulge around the stoma, but a bulge is not always a parastomal hernia and diagnostics must be performed to enable differential treatment. It is difficult to distinguish between a bulge and a hernia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspects of diverting stoma and ERAS in rectal cancer surgery

    Författare :Kajsa Anderin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Annually, nearly 2000 patients are diagnosed with rectal cancer in Sweden. To date, the only known curative treatment is surgery and low anterior resection (LAR) is the operation of choice for tumours in the middle rectum. LÄS MER
