  1. 21. The Role of Gut Dysfunction and Nutritional Factors in Liver Cirrhosis

    Författare :Evangelos Kalaitzakis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :liver cirrhosis; malnutrition; gastrointestinal symptoms; health-related quality of life; food intake; energy expenditure; gastric accommodation; gastric barostat; insulin resistance; leptin; ghrelin; intestinal permeability;

    Sammanfattning : Malnutrition is a common finding in patients with liver cirrhosis. Malnutrition has been shown to be associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Its pathogenesis remains unclear but both poor dietary intake and increased energy expenditure have been reported. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is an important clinical problem in cirrhotics. 2. 22. Rectal prolapse, internal rectal intussusception and the ripstein rectopexy : a clinical, physiological and radiological study

    Författare :Inkeri Schultz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Anal incontinence; constipation; procidentia; rectal prolapse; internal rectal intussusception; Ripstein s operation; rectopexy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies was to increase the knowledge about rectal prolapse and internal rectal intussusception, with special reference to bowel function and treatment with the Ripstein rectopexy. Results after the Ripstein rectopexy in 69 patients with rectal prolapse and in 43 patients with internal metal intussusception were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Maternal outcome of pregnancy in Mozambique with special reference to abortion-related morbidity and mortality

    Författare :Fernanda Machungo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Abortion; adolescents; sexually transmitted disease; maternal mortality; health economy; Maputo; Mozambique;

    Sammanfattning : In the capital city of one of the least developed countries, and using a hospital-based approach, the general aim was to characterise women who have undergone illegally and legally induced abortions, and to show the magnitude of both maternal mortality and abortion-related severe morbidity in adolescents and non-adolescents, in order to call the attention of decision-makers and health planners to this hazardous reality. Methods: In the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Hospital Central do Maputo, 103 women undergoing induced legal abortion (LA), 103 women with confirmed, recent illegal abortion (IA), and 100 antenatal clinic (AC) attendees were compared, in order to find characteristic features regarding level of education, habitation, household, employment and religious belief. 4. 24. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation

    Författare :Swarupa Panda; Nelson O. Gekara; Fredrik Elgh; Anna Överby; Geert van Loo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; The ubiquitin system; Deubiquitinase; MYSM1; Innate immune regulation Toll-like receptor; RIG-l like receptors; Cytoplasmic DNA receptors; NOD-like receptors; Francisella tularensis; Immune subversion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 5. 25. Studies of SIRPα-mediated regulation of neutrophil functions

    Författare :Åsa Stenberg; Janove Sehlin; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; SIRPα; inflammation; adhesion; chemotaxis; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil granulocytes constitute the front line of defense in the innate immune response to invading microorganisms, but can also contribute to development of inflammatory disease and tissue destruction following e.g. myocardial infarction or stroke. LÄS MER
