21. Regulation of Injury Induced Schwann Cell Proliferation Schwann Cell Proliferation
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to investigate injury induced proliferation of Schwann cells with emphasis of the effects of the insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) and the sex hormones progesterone and estrogen. Proliferation, measured as [3H] thymidine incorporation, was studied in cultured segments of the rat sciatic nerve or through the use of the thymidine analogue bromo- deoxy-uridine (BrdU) in combination with immunocytochemistry. 22. Development of biosynthetic conduits for peripheral nerve repair
Sammanfattning : Peripheral nerve injuries are often associated with significant loss of nervous tissue leading to poor restoration of function following repair of injured nerves. Although the injury gap could be bridged by autologous nerve graft, the limited access to donor material and additional morbidity such as loss of sensation and scarring have prompted a search for biosynthetic nerve transplants. 23. Grasping the Peripheral State : A Historical Sociology of Nicaraguan State Formation
Sammanfattning : The thesis has two aims. The first one is to contribute to the field of political and historical sociology through an understanding of the processes of state formation in a Third World country. The second aim is to describe and analyze the development of the Nicaraguan state from independence to 1990. LÄS MER
24. Epidemiological aspects of peripheral arterial disease
Sammanfattning : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is defined as atherosclerosis in the arteries distal to the aortic bifurcation, with or without symptoms in the legs. It is diagnosed by ankle brachial pressure index (ABI) measurements and symptoms, and a confirmed diagnosis is associated with an increased cardiovascular (CV) mortality reaching the same levels as in patients with symptomatic coronary disease. 25. An exploration of the mechanisms behind peripheral nerve injury
Sammanfattning : Despite surgical innovation, the sensory and motor outcome after peripheral nerve injury is incomplete. In this thesis, the biological pathways potentially responsible for the poor functional recoveries were investigated in both the distal nerve stump/target organ, spinal motoneurons and dorsal root ganglia (DRG).
