21. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER
22. Immune regulation during pregnancy in relation to allergy and in women undergoing in vitro fertilization
Sammanfattning : During pregnancy, the fetus expresses both maternal and paternal antigens. To the mother, the paternal antigens are foreign, providing her immune system with an interesting challenge. The fact that the fetus is not normally attacked and rejected implies that mechanisms of tolerance must exist. LÄS MER
23. Development and Application of Microarray-Based Comparative Genomic Hybridization : Analysis of Neurofibromatosis Type-2, Schwannomatosis and Related Tumors
Sammanfattning : Neurofibromatosis type-2 (NF2) is an autosomal dominant disorder with the clinical hallmark of bilateral eighth cranial nerve schwannomas. However, the diagnostic criterion is complicated by the presence of a variable phenotype, with the severe form presenting with additional tumors such as peripheral schwannoma, meningioma and ependymoma. 24. Factors modifying cellular response to ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : Many physical factors influence the biological effect of exposure to ionizing radiation, including radiation quality, dose rate and temperature. This thesis focuses on how these factors influence the outcome of exposure and the mechanisms behind the cellular response. LÄS MER
25. Multimodal neuroimaging of pain and inflammation in the central nervous system in patients with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of concomitant fibromyalgia (FM) is puzzlingly high among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and a contemporary challenge is to resolve why some RA patients continue to report pain despite adequate treatment of their peripheral inflammation. While recent literature has concentrated on the link between cerebral and inflammatory mechanisms in RA patients with concomitant FM, little attention has been directed towards commonalities and divergences among these two patient groups when they are wellcharacterized.
