2. The impact of maternal body mass index on pelvic floor during labor and after childbirth, and a new anesthetic approach for repair of perineal lacerations
Sammanfattning : Objectives: This thesis aimed to assess the impact of maternal body mass index (BMI) on pelvic floor during labor and focusing on pelvic floor function following an anal sphincter injury (OASI). Additionally, the objective was to design a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) with the objective to evaluate the impact of supplementary anesthesia during the examination and repair of obstetric perineal lacerations. 3. Sphincter injuries and anal incontinence after vaginal delivery : a clinical and physiological study
Sammanfattning : Objective: To investigate the frequency and degree of anal incontinence after vaginal delivery in primiparous women, to determine risk factors for obstetric sphincter tears and to evaluate outcome of primary repair, to evaluate perineal body measurement (PBM) in patients with obstetric sphincter injuries, to study anal sphincter morphology and function before and after delivery, and to evaluate primiparous women who had sustained a sphincter tear or developed anal incontinence after delivery. 4. Sexual life after childbirth and aspects of midwives’ counselling at the postnatal check-up
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore and describe how sexual life after childbirth is communicated, addressed and reflected upon among new mothers, fathers and midwives and the impact of leaving first and minor second degree tears after childbirth unsutured. Specific aims were to compare two groups of women with minor lacerations (first and second degree) after a vaginal delivery, with respect to the healing process and experience when the lacerations were sutured or left to heal spontaneously (I); to elucidate women s experience of their sexual life after childbirth (II); to describe fathers' reflections about sexual life 3-6 months after the birth of their child (III); to describe midwives reflections on counselling women at their postnatal checkups, with a special focus on sexuality (IV). 5. Pelvic floor dysfunction after childbirth : symptoms, diagnosis, treatment
Sammanfattning : Vaginal delivery is a trauma to the levator ani muscles, the perineal muscles, and the anal sphincter complex (1-3). A levator ani deficiency cannot be surgically remedied and increases the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction later in life (4-6). LÄS MER
