  1. 1. Functional hybrid bionanomaterials based on titanium dioxide and cellulose, possessing antibacterial and drug delivery properties

    Författare :Olga Galkina; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The present work focuses on development and investigation of new functional hybrid nanomaterials based on titania nanoparticles and cellulose, possessing an important set of practical properties. The study includes two parts: first, nanocrystalline TiO₂ hydrosols produced by low-temperature sol-gel synthesis were successfully applied for cotton fabric modification. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Unraveling the importance of thiol compounds on mercury speciation, uptake and transformation by the iron-reducer Geobacter sulfurreducens

    Författare :Mareike Franziska Gutensohn; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Jeffra K. Schaefer; Vera Slaveykova; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; low molecular mass thiols; speciation; uptake; methylation; reduction; Hg 0 ; Hg II ; MeHg; Geobacter sulfurreducens; ICP-MS; LC-MS MS; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; cell physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The biogenic methylation of inorganic, divalent mercury (Hg(II)) by methylating microorganisms leads to formation and bioaccumulation of monomethyl mercury (MeHg) in the environment and can cause severe damage to ecosystems and human health. Diverse microorganisms carry the gene sequence hgcAB and are able to methylate Hg(II) intracellularly. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structure-Reactivity Correlations for Reactions of Palladium(II) and Platinum(IV) Complexes

    Författare :Tiesheng Shi; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thiol; l-methionine; maleic acid; carboxylic acid; thioether; platinum IV ; palladium II ; linear free energy relationship; volumes of activation; structure-reactivity correlation; reduction; substitution; equilibria; kinetics; mechanism; glutathione; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kinetics and mechanism for substitution reactions on tetraaquapalladium(II) by an extended series of thioethers, a great number of carboxylic acids, and olefins have been studied by use of UV-VIS, stopped-flow, and high-pressure stopped-flow spectrophotometry and NMR spectroscopy. Second-order rate constants k and activation parameters (activation enthalpies, entropies, and volumes) for formation of monodentate 1:1 complexes have been determined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The importance of nitric oxide bioavailability and endothelial mechanisms for cardioprotection by pharmacological intervention during myocardial ischaemia and reperfusion

    Författare :Andrey Gourine; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ATP sensitive K channels; endothelin-1; clevidipine; ETA receptor antagonist; glibenclamide; 5-hydroxydecanoic acid; infarct size; ischaemia; myeloperoxidase; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; pig; preconditioning; rat; reperfusion.;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischaemia initiates complex severe cellular changes and, after a critical time period, myocardial cell death. Despite that restitution of coronary blood flow is an absolute pre-requisite for tissue survival, myocardial reperfusion per se will also increase irreversible damage in the jeopardised myocardium. 5. 5. Clinical and genetic studies on patients with cystinuria

    Författare :Erik Fjellstedt; Martti Ala-Opas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cystinuria is a genetic disorder with autosomal recessive inheritance. It is caused by a defective proximal tubular reabsorbtion of cystine and the dibasic amino acids. The low urinary solubility of cystine causes a life-long stone disease, contributing to about 1% of all urinary stones in adults. LÄS MER
