1. Computational Multiscale Modeling of Pearlitic Steel
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities to describe the mechanical behaviorof a pearlitic steel by using computational homogenization, or multiscale modeling. The proposed model contains three scales: the engineering macroscale, the mesoscale representing the colonies of the pearlite and the microscale containing the individual cementite lamellae and the ferrite matrix. 2. Influence of combined thermal and mechanical loadings on pearlitic steel microstructure in railway wheels and rails
Sammanfattning : One of the most important aspects in railway operation is the interaction between rail and wheel. The contact patch between these two components is around the size of a small coin, and since high loads act on this small area, stresses will give rise to wear and damage in both components. LÄS MER
3. On multiscale modeling of pearlitic steel
Sammanfattning : By studying pearlitic steels using a scanning electron microscope it can be observed that pearlite is a two-phase material with cementite lamellae embedded in a matrix of ferrite. The cementite is commonly described as being stiff and brittle in comparison to the ferrite which is considered to have a soft and ductile mechanical behavior. LÄS MER
4. Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron: Influences of Microstructure on the Thermal Conductivity of Cast Iron
Sammanfattning : The thermal transport properties of cast iron are important in high temperature applications, where the temperatures should be kept low and the thermal gradients within the componentsmall. Dimensional and microstructural changes, thermally induced stresses and even failuremight be catastrophic consequences of intense and/or unevenly distributed temperatures. LÄS MER
5. Effects on Machinability due to Microstructure Variations in Case Hardening Steel
Sammanfattning : Typical products made of case hardening steel are transmission parts like gear wheels, pinions and crown wheels. Case hardening produces a carbon-rich surface and provides the parts with both enhanced hardness and fatigue life. LÄS MER
