1. Habitat structure, degradation and management effects on coral reef fish communities
Sammanfattning : Coral reefs are among the most diverse and productive ecosystems on earth, and are critical to the survival of tropical marine ecosystems and sustenance of local human populations. However, coral reefs are quite vulnerable to disturbances, both natural and anthropogenic. LÄS MER
2. Masking environmental feedback : Misfits between institutions and ecosystems in Belize and Thailand
Sammanfattning : The thesis analyses relationships between ecological and social systems in the context of coastal ecosystems. It examines human impacts from resource extraction and addresses management and governance behind resource exploitation. LÄS MER
3. Effects of habitat structure on tropical fish assemblages
Sammanfattning : Rates of habitat alteration and degradation are increasing worldwide due to anthropogenic influence. On coral reefs, the loss of live coral reduces structural complexity while facilitating algal increase. In many coastal lagoons seagrass and corals are cleared to make room for cultivated macroalgae. 4. Ecological connectivity in East African seascapes
Sammanfattning : Coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangroves constitute a complex mosaic of habitats referred to as the tropical seascape. Great gaps exist in the knowledge of how these systems are interconnected. This thesis sets out to examine ecological connectivity, i.e. LÄS MER
5. Shipborne geophysical study of an Ordovician-Silurian carbonate platform, Fårö - Hiiumaa area, northeastern Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : The lithological-stratigraphical subdivision, the internal structure and the present relief of the Lower Paleozoic bedrock sequence was investigated by means of high resolution shallow marine seismic reflection profiling in the northeastern Baltic Sea.The Cambrian, as well as the lowermost Silurian layers, show rapidly changing lithologies and thicknesses and provide no trans-Baltic seismic reflectors.
