  1. 6. Solar Shading for Low Energy Use and Daylight Quality in Offices: Simulations, Measurements and Design Tools

    Författare :Marie-Claude Dubois; Avdelningen för Energi och byggnadsdesign; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; screens; venetian blinds; awnings; design tools; measurements; computer simulations; solar-protective glass; heating; cooling; visual comfort; daylighting; energy use; Shading devices; solar protection; Architecture; interior design; Arkitektur; inredningsarkitektur; Energy research; Energiforskning;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the impact of solar shading devices on energy use and daylight quality in office rooms. The impact on energy use is analysed through computer simulations with the dynamic energy simulation program Derob-LTH while the impact on daylight quality is investigated through measurements in full-scale experimental office rooms and simulations with the program Radiance. 2. 7. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Författare :Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. Författare :Behzad A Monfared; Björn Palm; Joachim Claesson; Andrew Rowe; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic Refrigeration; Magnetic; Cooling; Magnetocaloric; Life Cycle Assessment; Modeling; Simulation; Optimization; Regeneration; Active Magnetic Regeneration; Bonded Regenerator; Heat Switch; Thermal Diode; Peltier; Solid-State; Prototype; Magnetisk Kylteknik; Magnetisk; Kylning; Magnetokalorisk; Livscykela-nalys; Modellering; Simulering; Optimering; Regenerering; Aktiv Mag-netisk Regenerering; Bunden Regenerator; Värmebrytare; Termodiod; Peltier; Solid-State; Prototyp; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Refrigeration plays a crucial role in many different sectors and consumes about 17% of the electricity produced globally. This significant energy consumption implies large share of refrigeration in primary energy consumption and other environmental impacts. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Performance evaluations of high-temperature cooling systems in Mediterranean climate

    Författare :Henrikki Pieskä; Christophe Duwig; Saqib Javed; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-temperature cooling; building energy simulations; exergy; Högtemperaturkyla; byggnadsenergisimuleringar; exergi; Strömnings- och klimatteori; Fluid and Climate Theory;

    Sammanfattning : Cooling demand in Europe is predicted to grow 25-50% between 2020-2050. Meanwhile, the EU aims to lower the greenhouse gas emissions from its building stock by 60%. Therefore, it is essential to find solutions that can meet the growing cooling demand with less energy and integrate renewable energy sources. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Inherent Safety Features and Passive Prevention Approaches for Pb/Bi-cooled Accelerator-Driven Systems

    Författare :Johan Carlsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Inherent Safety; Passive Safety; Accelerator-Driven Systems; ADS; nuclear waste; emergency decay heat removal; natural convection; thermal radiation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the investigation of passivesafety and inherent features of subcritical nucleartransmutation systems - accelerator-driven systems. The generalobjective of this research has been to improve the safetyperformance and avoid elevated coolant temperatures inworst-case scenarios like unprotected loss-of-ow accidents,loss-of-heat-sink accidents, and a combination of both theseaccident initiators.
