1. Population Genetic Structure of Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix) : From a Large to a Fine Scale Perspective
Sammanfattning : Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) is a bird species with a lek mating system found in the Palearctic boreal taiga. It is assumed that it has a continuous distribution along Scandinavia and Siberia, whereas in Central Europe it has declined during the last decades. LÄS MER
2. Extracting Genomic Variations using Selector Technology
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development and use of a new class of molecular tools called Selector probes, and its potential for investigations of genetic variation. The Selector technology provides multiplex amplification of targeted DNA sequences with a high specificity, and an enrichment factor in the same order of magnitude as PCR. LÄS MER
3. Morphometric and molecular variation in the Nordic dogroses (Rosa Sect. Caninae, Rosaceae)
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, I investigate the hierarchical structure of morphometric and molecular diversity within and between the Nordic dogroses (Rosa Sect. Caninae, Rosaceae). I also investigate patterns of geographic differentiation and taxonomic relationships within the group. LÄS MER
4. Life-history traits and population differentiation in a clonal plant: implications for establishment, persistence and weediness
Sammanfattning : Clonality is wide-spread among plants, and clonal plants dominate many habitats and include many highly invasive species. Clonal growth incurs both advantages and costs and clonal plants often have reduced sexual reproduction compared to non-clonal plants which could be expected to lower genetic variation and hence evolutionary potential. 5. Diversity of landraces and wild forms of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) : distribution and implications for conservation in southern Africa, with emphasis on Zimbabwe
Sammanfattning : Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is commonly grown in traditional agrosystems throughout the drought-prone Southern Africa as a staple food (edible seeds), a dessert food (edible flesh), and for animal feed. Several morphotypes of watermelon are found in this area; sweet watermelon, cooking melon and seed melon landraces of the traditional agrosystems; and possibly introgressed types which are regarded as agronomic weeds.
