  1. 16. Mechanistic studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys by high resolution in-situ and ex-situ probing techniques

    Författare :Ali Davoodi; Jinshan Pan; Gerald S. Frankel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; localized corrosion; pitting; aluminum alloy; intermetallic particle; Volta potential; cathodic activity; micro-galvanic effect; size dependence; SKPFM; in-situ AFM; integrated AFM SECM; numerical simulation; micrometer resolution; EIS.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : A multi-analytical approach based on in-situ and ex-situ local probing techniques was employed to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of some aluminum alloys in chloride containing solutions, focusing on the influence of intermetallic particles (IMPs) in the alloys. In the EN AW-3003 alloy, SEM-EDS analysis revealed constituent and dispersoid IMPs. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Nonlinear Dust Particle Dynamics and Collective Effects in Complex Plasmas

    Författare :Gianfranco Sorasio; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Complex Dusty Plasmas; Self excited; Nonlinear; Forced Oscillations; Electrostatic Instabilities in current-carrying magnetoplasmas; Cross-field instabilities in magnetized dusty plasmas; Dust Acoustic Waves; Electrostatic Dust Cyclotron Waves; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Theoretical studies of dusty plasmas have been performed by focusing attention principally on collective phenomena and on grain motion. This thesis consists of a collection of seven published papers that explore both the collective behavior of a complex plasma system as well as the dynamics of grains in plasmas. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Towards Prospective Exposure Modeling of Nanoparticles - Applying Particle Flow Analysis and Kinetic Exposure Modeling for the Cases of TiO2 and Ag Nanoparticles

    Författare :Rickard Arvidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exposure modeling; environmental risk assessment; nanoparticles; Particle flow analysis PFA ;

    Sammanfattning : The claims regarding the usefulness of nanoparticles (NPs) in different applications, such as wound dressings, solar cells and soil remediation, has been accompanied by concern that NPs may also pose risks to humans and to the environment. Considering the past century, when many substances later shown to cause unacceptable damage were manufactured in large amounts, there are reasons to thoroughly assess the risks of these NPs. LÄS MER

  4. 19. A structural study into the boundary surface and associated curvature of three-dimensional mesoporous silica crystals

    Författare :Keiichi Miyasaka; Osamu Terasaki; Reinhard Nesper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mesoporous crystal; electron crystallography; electrostatic potential map; equi-potential surface; curvature; multiplly-twinned particle; Chemistry; Kemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Since their first discovery in the early 1990s, mesoporous crystals (MCs) have fascinated researchers in various fields because of their interesting structures and their potential uses. Electron crystallography (EC) gives the direct three-dimensional (3D) realization of a crystal as a reconstructed electrostatic potential map (EPM). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Neutrino Oscillations and Charged Higgs Bosons – Experimental Projects for Physics beyond the Standard Model

    Författare :Christian Hansen; Tord Ekelöf; Blair Ratcliff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; CERN; LHC; ATLAS; charged; Higgs; SUSY; MSSM; oscillating; neutrino; RICH; CNGS; HPD; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on work done in two different experimental projects. The first project, the Tau RICH, is a previously proposed τ-neutrino appearance experiment for the CERN neutrino beam at the Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy. The proposed experimental concept is based on the use of focusing RICH detectors with liquid radiator (C6F14). LÄS MER
