1. Partial methane oxidation from electronic structure calculations
Sammanfattning : Investigating catalytic reactions with computational methods is a powerful approach to understand fundamental aspects of catalytic reactions and find ways to guide catalytic design. Partial methane oxidation is one example of a reaction with intriguing challenges, where a detailed atomistic approach may help to unravel the bottlenecks of this, as of yet, inefficient reaction. 2. Selective oxidation over mixed oxide catalysts
Sammanfattning : Since the metal oxide catalysts used in many chemical processes show very high selectivity for the products aimed at, both today and in the future, they play a key role in the environmentally and economically sustainable production of chemical intermediates. Two processes of this sort have been studied in the thesis: the ammoxidation of propane and propene over a Mo-V-Nb-Te-oxide catalyst and the selective oxidation of methanol over vanadium-based catalysts. 3. Partial methane oxidation: insights from first principles and micro-kinetics calculations
Sammanfattning : Partial methane oxidation is a much-desired reaction with some intriguing challenges. Not only is there a need to activate methane and oxygen, but there is also a need to control the selectivity and prevent over-oxidation to thermodynamically more stable products, like carbon dioxide and water. 4. Sulfur Capture and Oxidation of Calcium Sulfide in PFBC
Sammanfattning : Sorbents such as limestone are successfully used for removal of SO2 during pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) processes. However, there still remains a strong incentive to reduce the consumption of such sorbents. LÄS MER
5. Investigations on the Oxidation of Iron-chromium and Iron-vanadium Molten Alloys
Sammanfattning : With the progress of high alloy steelmaking processes, it is essential to minimize the loss of valuable metals, like chromium and vanadium during the decarburization process, from both economic as well as environmental view points. One unique technique to realize this aim, used in the present work, is the decarburization of high alloy steel grades using oxygen with CO2 in order to reduce the partial pressure of oxygen. LÄS MER
