Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to generate a grounded theory about the work done by teachers. The initial area of data collection was the work done by teachers in their non-regulated hours, in which the teachers are expected to carry out professional activities like planning, preparation, correcting and spontaneous contacts with students, parents and colleagues. 3. Words and non-words : Vocabulary and phonological working memory in Arabic-Swedish-speaking 4–7-year-olds with and without a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the vocabulary skills and the non-word repetition (NWR) performance of 99 typically developing (TD) 4–7-year-old Arabic-Swedish-speaking children and 11 Arabic-Swedish-speaking children with a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). The children’s early language development, family backgrounds and language exposure patterns are explored through parental questionnaires, and for the DLD children also via interviews with parents, teachers and speech-language pathologists regarding their developmental history, language skills and communicative behaviour. 4. På tal om dyslexi : En studie av hur barn, föräldrar och lärare berättar om och ger betydelse åt diagnoser som dyslexi och specifika läs- och skrivsvårigheter
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this study is to understand how children diagnosed as dyslectics use and ascribe meaning to the diagnosis given to them. The theoretical starting point is social constructionism, implying that dyslexia is a word that signifies a phenomenon, in this case children's problem with reading and writing, which in turn is mediated through a cultural, social and historical context. 5. Between open systems and closed doors : the needs and perceptions of parents of children with cognitive disabilities in educational settings
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on multivariate frailty models and one paper on the use of latent class models in genetic association studies. The common theme through the four papers is the use of latent variables to capture complex dependence structures in the data. LÄS MER
