21. Community stress exposure: Youth externalizing behavior and parenting in cultural context
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the process by which families respond to community-wide stressors in different cultural contexts. Each quantitative study within this thesis investigated the role of parenting behaviors and aspects of the co-parent relationship and/or the parent-child relationship that may attenuate negative effects of exposure to stressful events across cultures and time. 22. Improving Stress Tolerance in Industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains for Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass
Sammanfattning : The present work was aimed at developing industrial S. cerevisiae strains with improved tolerance to two types of stressors encountered during the fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass that affect ethanol yield and productivity, namely hydrolysate-derived inhibitors and high temperature, and at understanding the response of yeast and mechanisms of adaptation to such stressors. Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the psychometric properties of a questionnaire designed to evaluate parenting styles, and to study how depressive symptoms among adolescents and young adults may vary depending on the family environment and candidate gene–environment interaction (cG×E).The study sample consisted of participants (born during 1997 or 1999), and their caregivers from the Survey of Adolescent Life in Västmanland Cohort Study. 24. The care of children : A cross-national comparison of parents’ expectations and experiences
Sammanfattning : As a point of departure, this thesis is motivated by the big changes which have taken place in most Western European countries since the 1970s, with an increase in female labour market participation and, to some extent, men’s increased share of the domestic work. There is also a debate as to whether France, having a fairly extensive family support,should be categorised as closer to the Scandinavian countries or together with countries with more restrictive family policy such as Italy and Germany, and thus belonging to the conservative regime cluster as defined by Gösta Esping-Andersen.
