6. Cathodic arc deposition process
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to expand the knowledge of fundamental mechanisms that govern the cathodic arc process. The first part of this thesis explores and explains the correlations between a rather unexplored process parameter (i.e. cathode microstructure) and the microstructure of the coatings. LÄS MER
7. Venturing Further into the Field of 2D Materials and their Laminated Parent Phases
Sammanfattning : The field of 2D materials is a relatively young and rapidly growing area within materials science, which is concerned with atomically thin states of matter. Because of their intrinsic 2D morphology, 2D materials have exceptionally high surface to weight or surface to volume ratio. LÄS MER
8. Traces in Earth's geological record of the break-up of the L-chondrite parent body 470 Ma
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with signatures in sediments on Earth related to the L-chondrite parent body break-up event at 470 Ma. The aim of this thesis is twofold: (1) investigate if the increased flux of extraterrestrial material to Earth, following the disruption of the L-chondrite parent body included larger, asteroid-sized bodies (2) try to develop new methods and tools for finding and classifying relict cosmic material in sediments. 9. Industrial Alloys Studied by Surface Sensitive Techniques
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports on surface studies of industrial materials whose importance for society manifests in the vast range of applications. In industrial materials alloying is performed in order to improve the parent material's physical and mechanical properties such as strength, corrosion and wear resistance, as well as high temperature performance in comparison to the pure metal. 10. Microstructure and properties of welds in the lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101
Sammanfattning : Duplex stainless steels can be very attractive alternatives to austenitic grades due to their almost double strength at equal pitting corrosion resistance. When welding, the duplex alloys normally require addition of filler metal, while the commodity austenitic grades can often be welded autogenously. LÄS MER
