  1. 1. Through air drying : Thermographic studies of drying rates, drying non-uniformity and infrared assisted drying

    Författare :Aron Tysén; Lars Nilsson; Shri Ramaswamy; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Through air drying; TAD; Drying; Dewatering; Water removal; Infrared drying; Non-uniformity; Variability; Formation; Thermography; Tissue; Fabric; Wire; Pulp; Grammage; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The removal of water is an integral part of papermaking. The drying process is responsible for a great share of the energy used in the paper machine. Premium grade tissue products are dried by through air drying. Large volumes of natural gas are burned to heat the air drawn through the paper web to achieve the drying. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Through-Drying of Tissue Paper - Experiments and Modelling

    Författare :Henrik Weineisen; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; paper drying; modelling; TAD; through-drying; through-air drying; tissue; paper;

    Sammanfattning : In through-drying of paper, the energy required for drying is supplied by hot air, which is forced through the paper structure. The area for heat and mass transfer is the internal surface area of the paper, which is often many times larger than the external web surface area (xy-plane). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Baggy paper webs : Effect of uneven moisture and grammage profiles in different process steps

    Författare :Cecilia Land; Lennart Stolpe; Kaarlo Niskanen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bagginess; drying; calendering; grammage; moisture content; paper; profile; reels; softwood kraft pulp; storage; strain; tension; web; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : One of the problems encountered in paper converting is caused by the occurrence of "baggy webs", which essentially is when the tension profile of the paper web is uneven. In an area with low tension the paper is longer, which results in bagginess. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Through air drying : The influence of formation and pulp type on non-uniform drying and air flow

    Författare :Aron Tysén; Christophe Barbier; Lars Nilsson; Hannes Vomhoff; Stig Stenström; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drying; Dewatering; Water removal; Moisture; Non-uniformity; Variability; Tissue; TAD; Through air drying; Thermography; Formation; Pulp; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The removal of water is an integral part of tissue paper production. Through air drying (TAD) is used for water removal when producing premium tissue grade products, however, at the price of higher energy demand. A better understanding of TAD may therefore lower the energy demand. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Strategies for Reduced Energy Use and Cost in Pulp and Paper Mills by Energy Integration of the Paper Drying Process

    Författare :Kristian Lindell; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Paper; Pappers- och massateknik; pulp and paper technology; Wood; Energiforskning; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Combined dryer; Energy research; Black liquor gasification; Heat recovery; Secondary energy; Co-generation; Costs; Energy; Drying;

    Sammanfattning : The cost of energy for drying paper is substantial for the pulp and paper industry, and studies of various strategies for energy cost reductions such as increased energy efficiency, increased heat recovery from the exhaust drying air and reduced cost of the process heat are presented in this thesis. The energy use and cost studies were performed using a block-model based simulation tool developed for this specific purpose. LÄS MER
