  1. 1. Spleno-pancreatic development assessed by 3D molecular imaging

    Författare :Amir Asayesh; Ulf Ahlgren; Beatriz Sosa-Pineda; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell biology; Spleen; Pancreas; Imaging; Development; Cellbiologi; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The development of different organs and tissues along the gastrointestinal tract, including the pancreas, depends on signalling between the endoderm and the adjacent mesenchyme. The Nkx gene Bapx1 is involved in spatial control of organ-positioning in the spleno-pancreatic region, and deficiency in this gene results in unacceptable proximity of the splenic mesenchyme to the pancreas. 2. 2. Pancreatic Endocrine Tumourigenesis : Genes of potential importance

    Författare :Térèse A. Johansson; Barbro Eriksson; Britt Skogseid; Gunnar Westin; Martin Bäckdahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreatic endocrine tumour; Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1; Tumourigenesis; Notch signalling; Notch1; Hes1; Neurog3; Neurod1; Men1; Ascl1; Pou3f4; Pdx1; Rpl10; Dlk1; Dkk1; Tph1; menin; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding signalling pathways that control pancreatic endocrine tumour (PET) development and proliferation may reveal novel targets for therapeutic intervention. The pathogenesis for sporadic and hereditary PETs, apart from mutations of the MEN1 and VHL tumour suppressor genes, is still elusive. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies of individual pancreatic -cells : Electrophysiological analysis of rhythmic behaviour and development of new techniques

    Författare :Staffan Dryselius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic beta-cells; insulin release; signal transduction; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; patch clamp; ATP-regulated potassium channels; voltage-dependent calcium channels; metabolism; calcium ion; strontium ion; manganese ion; wavelets; de-noising; pattern recognition; superfusion; solution changes; microscopic labelling; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin concentration in blood varies periodically, which is believed to prevent down-regulation of the hormone receptors. Loss of the regular insulin oscillations is considered to be an early sign of developing diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The MEN 1 Pancreas : Tumor Development and Haploinsufficiency

    Författare :Margareta Halin Lejonklou; Britt Skogseid; Peter Stålberg; Andreea Barbu; Gerard Doherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEN 1; PNET; tumor development; haploinsufficiency; survivin; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I Syndrome (MEN 1) is a monogenic autosomal dominantly inherited cancer syndrome caused by a heterozygous loss of the MEN1 gene, predisposing for endocrine cell proliferation and tumor formation. MEN 1 carriers classically develop tumors in endocrine organs; the parathyroids, the endocrine pancreas, and the pituitary. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterizing the pancreatic "isletome" : 3D optical imaging to study diabetes

    Författare :Max Hahn; Ulf Ahlgren; András Gorzsás; Leif Carlsson; Alvin C. Powers; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D imaging; fluorescence microscopy; 3D image analysis; technique development; diabetes; Islet of Langerhans; Insulin; β-cell mass; pancreas; anatomy; molecular medicine medical sciences ; molekylär medicin medicinska vetenskaper ; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The pancreas is a specialised multipurpose organ, that can be separated into two major compartments: endocrine and exocrine. The exocrine part makes up the majority of the organ volume and functions to secrete digestive enzymes into the small intestine. LÄS MER
