  1. 6. Tracking environmental changes of the Baltic Sea coastal zone since mid-Holocene

    Författare :Wenxin Ning; Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap (CEC); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I used two coastal sediment sequences from SE Sweden to study how Baltic Sea coastal environment has changed since the mid-Holocene. The results show the coastal environment has been influenced by multi-stressors, such as climate change, shoreline regression and anthropogenic activities. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Lipid biomarkers and other geochemical indicators in paleoenvironmental studies of two Arctic systems : a Russian permafrost peatland and marine sediments from the Lomonosov Ridge

    Författare :Rina Argelia Andersson; Magnus Mörth; Richard Pancost; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lipid biomarkers; peat; permafrost; Arctic Ocean; marine sediments; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The reconstruction of past environmental conditions is a fascinating research area that attracts the interest of many individuals in various geological disciplines. Paleoenvironmental reconstruction studies can shed light on the understanding of past climates and are a key to the prediction of future climate changes and their consequences. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Dansgaard-Oeschger cycles and Heinrich events in western Europe - A diatom perspective

    Författare :Linda Ampel; Barbara Wohlfarth; Jan Risberg; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dansgaard-Oescher cycles; Heinrich events; MIS 3 and 2; diatoms; Les Echets; France; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : The last glacial period was characterised by several abrupt climatic shifts referred to as Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) cycles and Heinrich events. These shifts were most frequent between 60,000 and 20,000 years before present coinciding with Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 3 and 2. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Linking lake variability, climate, and human activity in Basotu, Tanzania

    Författare :Lindsey Higgins; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Jan Risberg; Sarah Davies; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tanzania; crater lake; climate change; land-use change; water resources; environmental variability; diatoms; paleolimnology; chronology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Paleoenvironmental investigations establish important baseline knowledge of the natural variability of lake systems, to better understand human impacts on the landscape, and the effects of climate change on water resources. By combining long-term environmental history with investigations into modern land use patterns and climatological events, a wider perspective can be reached that has practical applications in water governance. 5. 10. Late Cenozoic Geoarchives from Lake Baikal, Siberia

    Författare :Tomasz Sapota; Ala Aldahan; Göran Possnert; Ihsan Al-Aasm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary geology; Lake Baikal; Be-10 isotope; chronology; paleoclimate; tectonics; geomagnetic field; cosmic rays; Kvartärgeologi; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : Three long sediment cores (BDP-98 – 600 m, BDP-96 – 200 m and BDP-93 – 100 m) drilled in Lake Baikal (Siberia) have been studied with the aims of establishing an absolute chronology and reconstructing paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes in the region. The location of the lake at relatively high latitude and continental interior and a thick continuous sedimentary archive that developed in a rift system tectonic setting provide unique material for this investigation.
