  1. 1. Genetics of pain : studies of migraine and pain insensitivity

    Författare :Anna Norberg; Monica Holmberg; Arn van den Maagdenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Migraine; pain insensitivity; susceptibility genes; genome-wide scan; linkage; polymorphism; association; HSAN V; nerve growth factor; neurite outgrowth; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Pain is a major public health issue throughout the world. Increased understanding of the different forms of pain and identification of susceptibility genes could contribute to improved treatments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Norrbottnian congenital insensitivity to pain

    Författare :Jan Minde; Göran Toolanen; Li Tsai-Fällender; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pain insensitivity; HSAN; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital insensitivity to pain is a rare hereditary neuropathy. We present patients from a large family in Norrbotten, Sweden with a mutation in the nerve growth factor β gene (NGFß). Using a model of recessive inheritance, we identified an 8.3-Mb region on chromosome 1p11. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The use of monogenic disease to study basal and disease associated mechanisms with focus on NGF dependent pain insensitivity and ISCU myopathy

    Författare :Elin Larsson; Monica Holmberg; Geoff Woods; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; monogenic; disease; NGF; receptor; pain insensitivity; ISCU; myopathy; splicing; molecular medicine medical sciences ; molekylär medicin medicinska vetenskaper ;

    Sammanfattning : Monogenic diseases make excellent models for the study of gene functions and basal cellular mechanisms in humans. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate how genetic mutations affect the basal cellular mechanisms in the monogenic diseases Nerve growth factor (NGF) dependent pain insensitivity and Iron-Sulphur cluster assembly protein U (ISCU) myopathy. 4. 4. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Författare :Helena Sturesson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; histokemi; cytokemi; vävnadskultur; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Skin; Immunohistochemistry; Cannabinoid receptor 1 CB1 ; Pain; Primary sensory neurons; TRP ion channels; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Central pain after spinal cord injury : experimental studies with special emphasis on pharmacological treatment

    Författare :Wei Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :allodynia; central pain; ischemia; spinal cord injury; intrathecal; opioid; opioid receptors; selective opioid agonists; selective opioid antagonists; tolerance; dependence; clonidine; bovine chromaffin cells; encapsulation; resiniferatoxin;

    Sammanfattning : Injuries and dysfunctions of the central nervous system can cause central pain which, according to clinical experience, is often refractory to conventional treatments. The present thesis consists of experimental studies on the mechanisms and treatments of central pain using a well-established animal model of central pain after spinal cord injury. LÄS MER
